Frequently asked questions

Q: What type of paper is my front page printed on?
A: Your front page will be printed on KODAK PROFESSIONAL ENDURA photographic paper. In the typical home display environment, this paper will last for over 100 years before noticeable changes occur. You will receive a KODAK certificate verifying this with your order.

Q: What years are available online?
A: 1st January 1945 to 31st December 1989. Also all dates from 1st January 2001 to the present. Only a small number of dates from 1990 - 2000 are available online. However, these are being progressively scanned and added to the website. Dates prior to 1945 are not yet available online. Dates not available online can be ordered by contacting Fairfax directly.

Q: What if I would like a date outside this period?
A: These are not yet available online but can be ordered by completing the offline order form. They may also be ordered by contacting Fairfax directly. (See contacts page).

Q: What if I want a page other than the front page?
A: These are not available online but can be arranged by contacting Fairfax directly. (See contacts page).

Q: My front page is in black and white?
A: Because microfilm is only available in black and white a colour version cannot be offered before 2001. Dates after 2001 have been stored in PDF format and will be supplied in colour. If your preview is in black and white your print will be in black and white.

Q: What if I would like to use an excerpt or story from a front page for a commercial purpose (e.g. in a book, brochure, website, poster, film etc.)?
A: The Front Pages you buy online are strictly for personal use and subject to strict copyright regulations. If you would like to use a front page or a story from a Fairfax publication for a commercial purpose you must contact Fairfax Syndication for permission and pricing. (See contacts page).

Q: There is a slight curvature on my front page?
A: The early newspapers have been microfilmed and recently digitised from bound volumes of the newspaper. Like any thick book, the bound volumes can not be fully opened perfectly flat when they are being photographed. In some cases this results in unavoidable curvature near the margins of the page. The image you see online is the same as the one that will be printed for you. Please choose carefully as there is nothing that can be done to rectify any imperfections as these images are taken for our original records.

Q: Some of the text is not clear on my front page?
A: Please choose carefully as there is nothing that can be done to rectify any imperfections as these images are taken for our original records. The image you see online is the same as the one that will be printed for you.

Q: I can see "Fairfax Copyright" across the online preview of my front page. Will this be on the print of my front page?
A: No. This is an online "watermark" aimed at protecting our copyright against illegal copying.

Q: I have changed my mind and longer want my front page?
A: Please choose your front page carefully as it will be custom printed for you. Once it has been printed a refund cannot be issued if you simply change your mind.
